Nyuserra Ra Egypt's Decentralizing Pharaoh

Nyuserra, the first Egyptian ruler in history to decentralize power and the first king to completely change his government multiple times, is the sixth king of the Fifth Dynasty of Egypt. He is known as Rathurês in Greek. He ruled for 25 years from 2416 BCE to 2392 BCE. His birth name means "the king from the power of Ra." King Nyuserra Ra is the son of King Neferirkare Kakai and his second wife, Queen Khentkaus II, and the brother of King Neferirkare. He did not have a single vizier managing state affairs; rather, there was a vizier named Tjati who held the positions of "Overseer of the Treasury Rooms," "Overseer of the Royal Scribes," and "Overseer of the King's Ornament Rooms." Another vizier named Kay held the position of "Chief of the High House" and later became "Chief of the Six Great Houses" and Chief Judge of Egypt, also carrying the title "Governor of Upper Egypt." The vizier position rotated among individuals like Nefer, Batah Shensis, and the vizier Sekhemankhibtawy. King Nyuserra Ra did not leave his viziers in office for long to maintain decentralization and eliminate any centers of power in Egypt. He built a pyramid complex in Saqqara and a sun temple in the same location. One of his most notable artifacts is a double statue found in the Munich Museum in Germany, representing the king in two identical statues except for his facial features, one depicting him as a young man and the other as an elderly one, making it a rare statue unlike any other found in Egyptian artifacts.
